FAQ
Questions about independent solar performance analysis
Short answers about what sunalysis does, who it works with, what data an analysis needs, and how to get started.
What does sunalysis do?
sunalysis provides independent technical analysis of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants: identifying DC system losses, verifying capacity, and quantifying the financial impacts that matter. Services are pre-COD capacity testing, underperformance diagnostics, asset performance evaluation, warranty claim support, curtailment quantification, and repowering analysis.
Who is behind sunalysis?
sunalysis llc was founded by Michelle Propst, an electrical engineer whose career spans semiconductor engineering at Intel, thin-film module characterization at Abound Solar, founding the third-party PV test lab Pearl Laboratories, and directing field applications engineering at a PV power-electronics company.
Who does sunalysis work with?
Asset owners and independent power producers, O&M providers, EPC firms, project lenders and investors, and solar asset buyers and sellers.
When should I bring in an independent analyst?
Common triggers are a plant underperforming its P50 estimate, capacity risk before commercial operation (pre-COD), a warranty dispute with an EPC or equipment supplier, and technical due diligence on historical performance when buying or selling a solar asset.
What data does an analysis start from?
Analysis starts from the plant's operational data: SCADA, revenue meter, and weather data. Those are used to build an expected-performance baseline and isolate each loss category.
What do I get at the end?
A clear, defensible technical report that quantifies each loss category and its financial impact.
What tools and methods does sunalysis use?
Performance modeling in PVsyst and SAM, IV curve analysis, SCADA data analytics, statistical methods such as difference-in-differences analysis, reliability testing, and root cause analysis.
What size plants does sunalysis handle?
sunalysis specializes in utility-scale PV plants, from single plants to multi-plant portfolios.
Where does sunalysis work?
sunalysis works with utility-scale plants anywhere; analysis is done remotely from the plant's data.
